The “So Far... So Near - Inclusive Arts” long term project was developed by the Glocalmusic organisation. It aims to promote social inclusion through artistic activities, to educate professionals as well as to build a high-quality play with handicapped people. One of the main objectives is to actively engage disabled persons in the creative process of theatre-making. It also improves their capacity to fully participate in social life and form stronger human bonds. It is vital to acknowledge the value of belonging – becoming a member of a larger community, becoming more visible, exposing their work to a broader audience, and so fulfilling a dream of many – being seen, heard and recognized as an artist.

Where we are now? |
The project was presented to a diverse public throughout its life cycle, including organisations that supporting people with disabilities, civil society organisations, artists, cultural workers, and students in the arts and cultural fields.
We intended to showcase the finished piece, coming from the entire process in Lisbon, at the end of the project, in front of a large audience. However, due to the pandemic circumstances, this event was held online via a computer platform. Despite this setback, we have managed to take full advantage of the situation. This online event drew a bigger and more diverse audience, including not only parents and family members, but technicians from disability support organisations and artists, achieving all of its objectives in a variety of ways. (We are still hoping that we will be able to present the play publicly whenever the necessary conditions allow it! Fingers crossed!) We are proudly announcing that the “So Far… So Near… - Inclusive Arts Project” in 2020 has been evaluated as the ‘Project of good practices’ by the Erasmus + Education and Training Program in Portugal. |
